THEO Selected for the 52nd Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival
THEO, the short film directed by Jo Galvv and Monica Palazzo, has been selected for the Official International Ibero-American Short Film Competition at the 52nd Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival, taking place from November 13 to 21, 2026, in Huelva, Spain.
The festival is a qualifying event for the Ibershorts Prize in its International Ibero-American Short Film Competition, placing THEO among a selection of five international short films from across Ibero-America.
Set in 1980s Brazil, THEO follows a child who challenges gender expectations through a passion for football and an instinctive refusal to conform. The film explores childhood, identity, memory and the ways in which gender is perceived and imposed from an early age.
THEO was directed by Jo Galvv and Monica Palazzo and produced in Brazil in 2025. The film previously had its world premiere at BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival and was selected for the Five Films for Freedom 2026 programme.
The 52nd Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival brings together 31 short films across its competitive sections, including 14 Spanish productions, five international Ibero-American productions, seven films in Talento Andaluz and five in Pantalla Huelva.
THEO will compete alongside films from Argentina, Chile, Mexico and the Dominican Republic in the International Ibero-American Short Film Competition.
